How to Watch MLB on Kodi 2017-2018 – Baseball on Kodi

Let’s just get right down to it. Baseball season is here, and you’re looking to watch all of the Major League Baseball games you can find. While you might be able to catch a few games on TV, you’re not going to get easy access to most the best games unless you watch MLB on Kodi. For the 2017-2018 MLB season, several good Kodi addons will help you stream MLB games

Before We Proceed

Watching MLB on Kodi is extremely popular. However, it is important to note that some Kodi users have been receiving copyright notices from their ISPs after using certain live sports addons. In order to keep their streaming habits private, many Kodi users turn to streaming their favorite games while connected to a virtual private network (VPN). A VPN essentially encrypts your internet connection, ensuring that no one, including your ISP, can see what you’re streaming.

IPVanish emphasizes a strict no-logs policy and high-level security features which will help keep your identity and streaming habits secure. You’ll also find that IPVanish has a large number of US-based servers, making it easy to access games if you’re living abroad.

We’ve focused our list of addons on those that provide working access to one or more of the following networks: TBS, ESPN, Fox, Fox Sports, TSN2, Sportsnet. These networks are the ones that currently hold MLB broadcasting rights.

We’ve also given special attention to addons that offer multiple streaming souces. These are a good option if you want to get more use out of the addon than just a single game a week.

Best Live Stream Options for MLB Baseball on Kodi

sylver How to Watch MLB on Kodi 2017-2018 - Baseball on Kodi

This one was a bit of a nice surprise for us. In testing Sylver for the first time, we discovered that it actually doesn’t have that much to offer in the way of U.S. sports channels, yet ESPN is there and it works. That means you’ll be able to get Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday night games through Sylver. Additionally, we found a working Fox channel stream in Sylvr, expanding your game viewing to Friday and Saturday as well.

Sylvr’s ESPN and Fox streams load incredibly fast and in very good quality. The Fox channel stream may come off a bit weird, however. It displays two different channels in small boxes on the screen, although the quality was still good when we checked it. It’s likely that Sylvr is working well due to being a smaller, lesser known addon, so we’ll make sure to check the functionality of this one regularly during the 2017-2018 MLB season.

Note: You can find Sylvr in the Indigo installer. Click here to access our Indigo installation guide.

cCloud TV

ccloud mlb kodi

Among the options you have here, we highly recommend cCloud TV. This is one of the best live TV addons out there, offering a ridiculously large number of live TV streaming options. We sifted through the channels you might be trying to watch, with surprisingly good results. As for Fox channels, cCloud TV has about a dozen different Fox affiliates listed. Some of these links appear to have been recently updated, as most are were working when we tested them for this review.

We also found working streams for TBS, ESPN and MLB Network. The Fox, ESPN and MLB Network streams that we tested all loaded fast and in excellent quality. Given you’ll find a working MLB Network stream here alongside the ESPN and Fox streams, you should have access to games every day of the week using cCloud TV.

This is a surprisingly good option, considering that its focus is primarily Canadian channels. However, you can find a few US channels, including some that will give you access to MLB on Kodi. With those options, you’ll have coverage for Sunday Night, Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday games.

Other Potential Options

While the options we listed above are what we believe to be the best ones, you may find some of the following options work for you. We encourage you to try these potential addons options as well. We’ve found them to be a good choice for streaming other live sports, although we cannot verify that they will be a great option for your MLB baseball streaming on Kodi.

Pro Sport

Pro Sport is a fairly popular option among the Kodi community. Users tend to prefer it for other sports, like NHL and NFL. However, there are a large number of live TV streaming sites that are scraped through Pro Sport. As such, you might have fun poking around and seeing if you can find any good, hidden gems among the large and varied folders.

USTVNow Plus

I personally could not seem to get this one working on my computer. However, one of our other writers was able to use this service as an option for watching the MLB World Series. In his article, How to Watch MLB World Series on Kodi, he provides visual evidence that he was able to access games on Fox. It may just be a case of USTVNow Plus not working for me. That being the case, it could work just fine for you, so it’s certainly worth giving it a shot.

USTVNow Plus is ostensibly a paid service, but they do offer 7 channels for free, including Fox which is one of the official broadcasters for this year. That means you’ll get access to Friday and Saturday games with this service.

When signing up for your free account, make sure that you do not sign up with your Facebook or Gmail accounts. You might have trouble logging in on Kodi. Use a non-Gmail email address or a throwaway address. You’ll need need to verify your account before it works.

Click here to access our MLB World Series on Kodi article. You will find instructions on how to install USTVNow Plus there. You may also want to bookmark that page, as we will likely update it prior to this year’s World Series with new information and additional ways to watch the World Series.

We’ve recommended this addon for several different live sports. Recently, however, I have not found much success with it in testing for different live sports. However, the Kodi Subreddit /r/Addons4Kodi is still pointing out SportsDevil as a good option. While I could not get any of the links related to MLB to load while testing it, that could change in the future. Some addons do get updated semi-regularly, and SportsDevil tends to be a somewhat popular addon. It might be a good idea to download this one just to try it out and see if you can get anything working on it. If not, you can still leave it installed just in case you do find it has a use later on down the road.

MLB Broadcasting Rights

If you’re going to watch MLB games on Kodi, you will likely need to have few different addons handy. For the 2017-2018 year, different television networks have contracts to show games. Those contracts cover different days of the week, so you may have to switch around channels or addons depending on which day of the week it is.

Here’s the basic breakdown for those daily broadcast contracts:

Sunday Afternoon: TBS

Sunday Night: ESPN

Monday Night: ESPN

Tuesday Night: No games

Wednesday Night: ESPN

Thursday Night: MLB Network

Friday Night: Fox and Fox Sports 1

Saturday Night: Fox

To review, the following American networks will have MLB broadcasting rights for 2017-2018: ESPN, TBS, MLB Network, Fox, and Fox Sports.

However, outside of the U.S., the following Canadian networks will carry games:

  • Sportsnet
  • TSN (Sunday nights only)

It should be noted that not all MLB games are broadcast in Canada. As the Blue Jays are the only Canadian team in the league, Blue Jays games get preference with broadcasts.

From our research into these networks over a large number of different Kodi addons, here are a few important takeaways you might want to consider:

Fox, Fox Sports, and ESPN tend to lock down their streams. We discovered this to be true in particular to the lead up to the Super Bowl, which was broadcast on Fox for the 2016-2017 season. While we initially found working streams for Fox OTA channels through many Kodi applications, Fox appears to have significantly clamped down on online stream access. As such, you may have difficulty getting access to a large majority of the games on different days. That said, we’ve scoured the addons to find streams that work for these. Nevertheless, we cannot guarantee that these streams will work by the time you get to them.

Streams can be slow loading and broken due to high volume. Let’s face it: Kodi is getting more popular. While the developer community is growing, the user community is growing much faster. Sports, in particular, have always been popular for Kodi users, and there’s simply no getting around the fact that increased volume will cause streaming issues. It’s not something that you can easily avoid.

On-demand options are still a good way to go. If you’re having issues getting live games, don’t hesitate to try on-demand options. You might find a lot of good options on this end, while you’re less likely to experience the kind of bandwidth issues if you’re watching the games as replays on-demand than live.

sportsdevil seems to be the best thing to stream mlb 2017. oh ,and ustv now

  • Murphy

This article is asinine. Your best option to watch baseball is showing us how to get to espn? How many games a week does espn show vs how many are played? This is useless.

    • Sam C.

      Hi Murphy,

What our article shows here is how to access these games on Kodi. At present, the way to do that is through the different networks that have broadcasting rights. For this year, ESPN has the largest share of the broadcasting rights. They’ll play several games a day, depending on whether those games are scheduled on a day that aligns to their contract. For games playing simultaneously, they usually pick the more popular one, but may switch back and forth between games, or play those games on other ESPN channels. However, ESPN is not the only network with contracts, as we show above, and we also show which addons have access to additional networks beyond just ESPN that do show games.

If you check the end, we also show which networks have which games on different days of the week.
