UPDATE: For the latest Kodi build news, check out our June 2017 Best Kodi Builds Roundup.

Welcome to the February 2017 edition of our monthly Kodi build roundup!  This time around, we’ll be giving you a hands-on tour of the brand new “2.0” edition UKTV’s Nemesis.  We’ll also be catching you up with news from the creators of the best Kodi builds: Ares Project, Wookie, Top Tutorials, KodiUKTV and Echo Coding.

Before you proceed

We highly recommend using a VPN anytime you use Kodi.  Kodi streamers have been known to receive copyright infringement notices for watching movies, sports, and TV shows through various addons.  If you would like to keep your streaming habits private, our recommendation is IPVanish – a complete privacy solution for Kodi users.

Objective reviews of the best kodi builds

Anybody who has used Kodi builds for any amount of time knows how hard it is to keep track of everything that’s going on in the Kodi community.  To help our readers stay informed about the changes, we check around the web to see what our favorite build makers are up to every month.

Unlike most Kodi related websites, we’re not affiliated with any particular group of Kodi developers.  All the build news and reviews that you’ll find here are completely objective.

This edition of our Kodi build roundup begins with news from the Ares Project– the group behind the excellent Ares Wizard installer.

Ares Project

Ares Project build maker Eric Shankman is the man behind the innovative family build known as Shank’s Build.

At the very end of January, Shankman dropped a new build for United States based Kodi fans called Ares Build US Version.

If it takes off, the US Version of Ares Build could help Kodi gain popularity in the United States.  USA cable prices are just as high as they are in the UK, but for whatever reason Kodi hasn’t caught on there yet.

How to get Ares Project builds and addons

  • Go to https://areswizard.co.uk and download the Ares Wizard file script.areswizardx.x.xx.zip to your desktop.
  • Open script.areswizardx.x.xx.zip from inside of Kodi via system → settings → addons → install from zip file.
  • Now you can browse all of Ares Project’s Kodi software by navigating to programs → ares wizard.

Wookie

Last month, I took an in-depth look at Mega’s Wookie Build.  Even though some of its menu pages were thin, I thought it was a pretty good build for sports oriented Kodi fans.

From the looks of things, Mega seems to be committed to pushing out regular updates for his builds.  The latest patch corrected a number of faults that I pointed out last month.

In addition to bug fixes, the latest Mega’s Wookie Build update has added a new animated splash screen.  It looks pretty cool… but it will probably make you want to use the bathroom every time you see it:

How to get Wookie builds and addons

  • Go to https://wookiespmc.com/wiz/ and download the file named Click me – succumb to The Wookie.zip
  • Open Click me – succumb to The Wookie.zip from inside of Kodi via system → settings → addons → install from zip file.
  • Now you can browse all of Wookie’s Kodi software by navigating to programs → wookie wizard

Top Tutorials

The large and very active group of 3rd party Kodi developers known as Top Tutorials recently released a Kodi Krypton version of Ultra TT.  But when I checked it out, I was disappointed to discover that Krypton Ultra TT is very much a “work in progress.”

The Krypton version of Ultra TT looks exactly like the Kodi Jarvis version of the build– only it’s slower and buggier.

I love how the classic Jarvis version of Ultra TT pulls up an “extended info” screen when you pull up a movie.  But that feature doesn’t work in the Kodi Krypton version of Ultra TT.

Once Top Tutorials figures out how to take advantage of the improvements introduced with Kodi Krypton, I’m sure that the Krypton version of Ultra TT will be awesome.  But for now, you might as well stick with the Kodi Jarvis version of Ultra TT if you’re a fan of this build.

How to get Top Tutorials builds and addons

  • Go to https://toptutorials.co.uk/kodi/builds/ and download the Top Tutorials Wizard file plugin.video.ttwizard.zip to your desktop.
  • Open plugin.video.ttwizard.zip from inside of Kodi via system → settings → addons → install from zip file.
  • Now you can browse all of Top Tutorial’s Kodi software by navigating to programs → top tutorials wizard.

KodiUKTV

The biggest news from KodiUKTV is the debut of Nemesis 2.0.  Aside from that, the KodiUKTV Facebook group has been fairly quiet as of late.

Hopefully, KodiUKTV will update the 2.0 edition of Nemesis more frequently than they updated Nemesis 1.0.

How to get KodiUKTV builds and addons

  • Go to https://kodiuk.tv/repo/ and download the file named repository.kodiuktv-X.X.X.zip to your desktop.
  • Open repository.kodiuktv-X.X.X.zip from inside of Kodi via system → settings → addons → install from zip file.
  • Navigate to system → settings → addons → install from repository → kodiuktv repo → program addons → kodiuktv wizard → install.
  • Now you can browse all of KodiUKTV’s Kodi software by navigating to programs → kodiuktv wizard

Echo Coding

Echo Coding is always releasing new builds and addons.  They’re also extremely active on social networks.

Not long ago, Echo Coding released a Kodi Krypton compatible build.

I haven’t tried it out the Krypton version of Vibe yet, but my guess is that it’s probably pretty buggy.  I’m going to stick with Kodi Jarvis for at least a few more months before I start trying out Krypton builds.

The Beast is now available on Echo Wizard

It appears as though Echo Coding has formed an unholy alliance with the makers of The Beast build.

Echo Coding is one of my favorite Kodi 3rd party developers.  But the partnership between the guy who makes “Beast” builds and Echo Coding doesn’t make much sense to me.

Echo Coding always puts out ad free addons and builds.  But whoever’s behind The Beast build obviously just wants to make a quick buck.  Whoever he is doesn’t seem very committed to the ideals that make the Kodi community so unique.

The main Beast build itself is okay.  But most other “Beast” brand builds are downright awful.  And the developer always requires you to click your way through a website that’s crammed full of banner ads in order to activate his stuff.

How to get Echo builds and addons

  • Go to https://echocoder.com/repo/ and download the file named repository.echo-X.X.X.zip to your desktop.
  • Open repository.echo-X.X.X.zip from inside of Kodi via system → settings → addons → install from zip file.
  • Navigate to system → settings → addons → install from repository → echo repository → program addons → echo wizard → install.
  • Now you can browse all of Echo’s Kodi software by navigating to programs → echo wizard

Best Kodi Builds Reviews: Nemesis 2.0

Nemesis 2.0 shows promise, but there are a few annoying quirks that are holding it back.  But I think that once KodiUKTV tightens this build up a bit, it’ll be quite good.

Pros

  • Streamlined design
  • Super customizable and flexible
  • Easy to search for and add new addons
  • Extra info available for TV shows and movies
  • iVUE TV guide grabs more info than any other Kodi TV guide
  • Attractive color scheme and fonts
  • Lots of content for kids
  • Easy to use but not dumbed down

Cons

  • The topmost navigation bar is extremely aggravating
  • Installation can be buggy if you don’t use “fresh start”
  • You may have to mess around with iVUE’s settings to get it to work
  • YouTube has its own main menu, but there’s no way to login to YouTube

Let’s take a closer look at some its most interesting menu pages.

Addons

This build’s Addons menu is one its better pages.  The widgets listed here make it very easy to find new addons to try out.  I like the fact that my personal favorite wizard– Ares Wizard– is featured prominently here.

Movies

Nemesis 2.0’s movie page is quite good.  The top section of the screen has nice looking widgets that display recent movies.  In the bottom submenu, you’ll find shortcuts to all the usual suspects:

  • Specto
  • Exodus
  • Salts
  • Maverick
  • Velocity
  • Phoenix

When you hover over one of Nemesis 2.0’s movie widgets, IMDB info pops up and poster art for the movie appears in the background.

TV Shows

Some builds only pull IMDB info for movies.  But Nemesis 2.0 can also pull info about whatever television series you want to learn more about.  All you have to do to get the details is hover over a widget.

iVUE Guide

If you press the big TV Guide button on the TV Guide menu, Nemesis 2.0 directs you to iVUE.  iVUE is quite cool because it pulls more info than most other TV guide emulators.

From the main screen, you can pick any show you want to watch.  If multiple streams are available, you’ll get a prompt to choose the one you want to use.

Note: The first time I loaded up iVUE, the screen was blank.  I had to close out iVUE, mess with the settings a bit and then load it back up to get it to work.

If you have problems with iVUE while using Nemesis 2.0, try this:

  • Press c
  • Select ivue settings
  • Go to the source menu
  • Change file download interval to every startup

Settings

The settings page offers all the usual maintenance options, plus a few cool extras.

I was pretty impressed by Nemesis 2.0’s vast array of customization options.

You can put in your own wallpaper, move the widgets around, turn them all off, change the color scheme and do all kinds of other cool stuff via the edit skin menu.

YouTube

I’m glad that the makers of Nemesis 2.0 decided to give YouTube its own page.  However, the YouTube addon was extremely wonky when I tried to use it.  I tried messing around with the settings for a while, but no matter what I did I couldn’t login.

Sport

The Sport menu is devoid of widgets, but it does have convenient shortcuts to all the best sports addons.

In the submenu, you’ll find links to:

  • Extreme sports
  • Pro Sport
  • Maverick Sports
  • Watch Wrestling
  • MoneySports
  • Bob’s Addon
  • Zem Sports
  • Evolve
  • Stealth Streams
  • Phoenix Sports
  • DC Sports
  • Bulldog Streams
  • Adrian Sports EPL

What’s up with this extremely annoying menu?

If you decide to check out Nemesis 2.0, whatever you do– don’t touch your keyboard’s “up” button.

If you press up too many times, you’ll end up on a blank page depicted below.

You won’t be able to escape from this screen very easily once you land here.

If you get stuck in a weird menu when using Nemesis 2.0:

  •  Press the “s” key on your keyboard to get to the settings menu
  •  Press the escape key

Nemesis 2.0 could’ve been one of the best Kodi builds

Nemesis 2.0 is a good build that could’ve been a truly excellent one.  Hopefully, future updates will straighten out the few minor flaws that are holding it back.

The coolest thing about this build is that you can change whatever you don’t like about how it looks.  Nemesis 2.0 is probably the most customizable build I’ve seen so far.  Hardly any of its design settings are hardcoded.

Another great thing about Nemesis 2.0 is that the Addons menu page makes it super easy to find and install new addons.

On the other hand, I was more than a bit disappointed when I found out that Nemesis 2.0 is not nearly as user friendly as the first version of Nemesis used to be.

Nemesis 1.0 was simple, but elegantly streamlined.  Nemesis 2.0 offers a ton more options.  However, it also adds in an annoying top menu that serves no clear purpose and only confuses an interface that is otherwise very clean and user-friendly.

How to install Nemesis 2.0

If you want to try out Nemesis 2.0, you can easily install it via the KodiUKTV Wizard.

In case you don’t have the KodiUKTV Wizard yet, check out the step-by-step guide below for detailed installation instructions and links.

  1. Go to https://kodiuk.tv/repo/ and download the file named repository.kodiuktv-X.X.X.zip to your desktop.
  2. Open repository.kodiuktv-X.X.X.zip from inside of Kodi via system → settings → addons → install from zip file.
  3. Navigate to system → settings → addons → install from repository → kodiuktv repo → program addons → kodiuktv wizard → install.
  4. Now you can browse all of KodiUKTV’s builds by navigating to programs → kodiuktv wizard → builds
