American Netflix has the largest Netflix library of any region. However, Netflix cracked down on DNS proxies and some VPN services that many international Netflix users were using to bypass the geographic content blocks. That said, the Netflix content blockade is a work in progress. Free American Netflix DNS codes are popping up every day that still bypass the system, and many sites have dedicated themselves to arming international users with regularly updated DNS codes to help get past those blocks. Where can you find those codes? How do they work? Are they better than other methods, such as VPN? Read below. We’ve laid it all out for you as plainly as possible. What is a DNS Code? How Can It Help Get American Netflix?

Simply put, DNS codes are nothing more than the IP address names assigned to different DNS servers around the world. Each ISP will use two different addresses for their DNS servers: a primary address, and a secondary address. These numbers align to the primary and the backup server that the ISP uses in case the first one goes down. American DNS codes are essentially IP addresses that are assigned to American DNS servers, such that Netflix.com will read the address and assume it is an American requesting access to its servers.

The ability to use a DNS code to get to American Netflix, then, is pretty simple. Connect to an American server, then to Netflix, and Netflix should conceivably just let you right on in. For the most part, this works. In fact, many websites now exist that provide regular updates regarding working DNS codes. We provide a more detailed explanation of what DNS means and how it works further down, as well as problems and dangers associated with using DNS codes. However, given that Netflix’s DNS/VPN ban is quite strong, there is a chance that they may not work. In that case, we recommend StrongVPN. It’s one of the few VPNs that are still able to consistently tap into the American Netflix.

Each of these DNS codes has been verified by multiple sources. However, we cannot guarantee that they are still working at the time you are reading this, nor can we verify as to their safety. Read below to understand why, as well as some of the issues that exist with DNS codes. First, however, a few instructions on how to use these codes.

For Windows 10 Users:

You can find and change your DNS server settings by doing the following:

  • Go to Control Panel

  • Select “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4

  • Enter in the Primary and Secondary DNS server codes

  • For best results, reset your computer afterward

For Mac Users:

You can find and change your DNS server settings by doing the following:

  • Select the “Apple” menu go to “System Preferences“.
  • Double-Click the “Network” icon
  • Head to the “TCP/IP” section. You can update the DNS settings by entering the new primary and secondary DNS servers using the “DNS Servers” section.
  • Do not forget to finish the process by clicking the “Apply Now” button.

Why Try to Gain Access to American Netflix?

Many Netflix users may not realize just how vastly different the libraries are in different Netflix regions. We’ve explored this issue in two separate articles. In the first, we examined which Netflix regions had the best content overall. In the second, we explored which Netflix regions had the newest content. American Netflix consistently hit top marks for the most content, although it did not necessarily always have the newest or the best content. Nevertheless, content amounts matter and they can and do make a difference:

As you can see, American Netflix dominates, followed closely by American Samoa. Even Canada, which was the first non-U.S. country to obtain Netflix, did not make the top 10 for countries with the most content. Canada is somewhere around #30 on the list. This most has to do with television shows. While American Netflix the largest library for both movies and TV programs, some countries are more heavily weighted in one category or the other. Just look at Equatorial Guinea. Canada, in fact, has about 3 times as many films as it does movies, most of them newer than what you’ll find on American Netflix.

So why bother with American Netflix, then? It all comes down to choose. The size of the American Netflix library means you’ll have more options, with the ability to discover new movies and films that you may otherwise not obtain through your own region. UK residents, for example, have a pitifully small library that’s less than half the size of the American one.

Germany is in an even worse position, with a library that’s only about one-third the size. Even if you can find somewhat newer films outside of American Netflix, you’ll likely exhaust your options pretty quickly. If you don’t believe it matters, we suggest checking out the website uNoGS. What is DNS? How Does It Work?

All computers, servers, and websites have specific, numerical address assigned to them. You typically know these as IP addresses. However, those IP addresses need to be translated from their numerical value to make them more usable and easier to remember for humans. The Domain Name System (or Server, or Service), takes these sets of numbers and translates them for you. It also acts as a sort of two-way street. As your computer translates the IP address of the website, that website also translates your IP address. The website thereby knows where you’re coming from, and your computer knows where that website IP address is located, and what it means in real, more tangible human terms.

Your computer does not have an IP address applied to it automatically, however, and that number is not rigid. It can change, and typically it does change whenever you connect to a different server. Currently, when you connect to your ISPs servers to gain internet access, you’re assigned an IP address automatically. However, you can change that number, and in some cases, you may have to. Smaller networks or overloaded networks at times have a limited number of IP addresses, so two people sharing the same network may get assigned the same IP address, easily confusing the local network.

Just as your computer has its own IP address assigned (which is its numerical name), the server you’re connected to also has its own IP address, which is also its numerical name. Currently, most server and computer assigned names are in IPv4 format, which consists of 4 digits, each with 1-3 numbers. There are 4.7 billion possible IPv4 number combinations.

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) servers are responsible for assigning IP address. As every DNS server also has its own address, this means that each DNS server also projects its location, and translates IP addresses for anyone connected to it. That also means that anyone connected to that DNS server is telling the world that they are located in the same place as that DNS server. That includes any website you connect to, such as Netflix. While it would certainly be possible for one to simply enter in a random set of numbers with the hope of somehow landing on a DNS server inside of the U.S., the number combinations are so vast that it would be nearly impossible to simply land on one by chance.


Issues with Using DNS Codes

While using DNS codes to bypass Netflix geographic blocking can work, they’re far from the most useful method. At times, they can even be a dangerous method to utilize. There are two, very specific reasons why you may want to consider using a VPN service as an alternative.

Free American Netflix DNS codes can expose you and your information to hackers

Keep in mind that free American Netflix DNS codes connect you to a DNS server somewhere else. In many cases, those free American Netflix DNS codes are actually a ruse posted by hackers themselves. Once you’re connected, they can snoop in on your browsing activity, including skimming off private information such as credit card numbers. This is done by DNS hijacking. You may think you’re connecting to a “safe” DNS server when you’re actually connected to a DNS server operated by the hacker who posted the code. Once you go to connect to Netflix or somewhere else, it may instead incorrectly translate the Netflix domain name to a different IP address, instead of transferring you to a malware-infected website.

In 2015, Netflix increased its efforts to block the use of DNS proxies. They can do this rather easily, in fact, by running software that detects when users are using IP addresses that are none for anonymizing and circumventing geographically-blocked content. They can also detect how many requests are coming through certain DNS servers and block those servers when an irregular increase in requests start appearing. As more DNS servers get used, more get added to a somewhat growing list of blacklisted sites. Your DNS code that works today may not last until next week, let alone tomorrow. Netflix has been very adamant about blocking DNS proxies, leading to no small amount of frustration. In fact, most websites that actively update users on new DNS codes are all advertising alternative methods as well, with most suggesting VPNs.


VPNs over Free American Netflix DNS Codes

There are some notable advantages to using a VPN over a DNS code. The first, and most important, perhaps, is the fact that VPNs offer a wider level of security that is not found on a DNS proxy server. Most VPN servers use high-level encryption, typically SSL and AES-256, to protect user data and user identities. Even free VPNs offer this advantage, although free VPNs often come with very significant limitations.

VPNs also provide the same advantage as a DNS proxy that you might find with American Netflix DNS codes. That means getting around geographic proxy blocks. Better yet, while Netflix has no problem blocking DNS proxies, they have seemed to struggle a bit when it comes to blocking a fair number of VPN services. Through our own research and testing, we’ve found that Strong VPN is the strongest among the VPNs that are still able to access the American Netflix reliably.

That said, you can still utilize free DNS codes to gain access to American Netflix. However, you are likely taking a bigger risk doing so than in simply using a VPN service. A free VPN service is a step-up, while a paid, subscription-based VPN service tends to provide the highest level of security and is more likely to provide you access to not just American Netflix, but every other regional Netflix library.
